The Ruger RXM: Everything You Wanted from “Perfection”

Glock’s famous motto is “Glock Perfection.” Yet, if you walk onto any range in America, the first things you’ll see are owners changing their sights, undercutting their trigger guards, and stippling their grips to make the gun actually fit their hands. Then there is the “Grip Angle Camp”—those who find the 22-degree rake just a bit too steep.

Instead of pivoting to meet the needs of the modern civilian shooter, Glock seems content to stick to their playbook, knowing their agency contracts will keep them afloat.

Enter the Ruger RXM. By partnering with Magpul, Ruger took a hard look at what shooters were actually asking for and delivered it out of the box. Available in both 4” and 4.5” models, the RXM features a serialized fire control insert, a factory undercut, aggressive texturing, and an almost universal optic mounting footprint.

I could talk about the technical specs all day, but you can find those HERE on Ruger’s site. Let’s talk about how it actually performs in the field.

First Impressions on the Range

I picked up my first RXM in December 2024 from my go-to FFL, Kings Pawn and Gun in Del City. At the time, I was serving as the Lieutenant of the Investigations Division. I needed a duty-capable pistol that took Glock 17 magazines, came in at a budget-friendly price point, and was a little less “bougie” than my Stealth Arms Platypus.

I mounted a Holosun 507c, headed to the gun club, and had it zeroed within a few rounds. That first day, I pushed over 500 rounds through the 4” model.

The verdict? It felt like home. With a 20-degree rake—sitting right in the sweet spot between a 1911 (18°) and a Glock (22°)—the ergonomics are exceptional. The recoil is standard for a 9mm of its size, but the flat-face trigger is impressively smooth right out of the box. I ran both the included Magpul mags and an old Glock 19 mag I’d been holding onto for years; both ran flawlessly.

Performance and Precision

Accuracy is where the RXM really shines. From 10 yards, I was easily stacking shots on top of each other. I even used this pistol to shoot the front half of a Stage 5 PPC, scoring a respectable 292/300.

The optic mounting system is rock solid. Using Ruger’s supplied screws and locator pins, I’ve now put over 3,000 rounds through this gun. I haven’t had to touch the mounting screws or adjust the zero once.

From the Safe to the Streets

Originally, I picked up a budget-friendly FDO holster on Amazon just for safe storage. However, the RXM quickly proved it was meant for more than just the safe. Because of its rugged durability, it became my “go-to” for warrants and overwatch work.

I discovered that the RXM paired with a TLR1-HL fits perfectly into Safariland Duty holsters. This became vital in October 2025, when I transitioned back to Patrol. The RXM is now my primary duty weapon and my lead “demo” gun for the classes I teach. It has seen plenty of abuse, and it hasn’t skipped a beat.

Final Thoughts

The Ruger RXM is a rare breed: a pistol that doesn’t need a $500 trip to a gunsmith to be “perfect.” The only thing I added was a red dot. I was so impressed with the 4” that when the 4.5” version launched, I had to grab one for my daily concealed carry.

If you’re looking for a duty-grade pistol that respects the shooter’s needs, the RXM deserves a spot in your holster. Check out the videos below to see it in action, along with a list of verified holster compatibility.
